The following pages should be studied in sequence, since each page builds on ideas developed in the previous ones.  However, for convenient reference, each page can also be accessed independently.

  1. Foreword

  2. What Ethics Is and Why We Need It

  3. Laying a Foundation

  4. Applying Values

  5. Getting Specific

  6. In-depth Analysis

  7. Simplifying the Process

  8. Testing the Theory

Developing a Rational Ethic can be read on two levels.  The ethic is a serious work in itself.  Any reader, whether he or she agrees or disagrees with the concept of rational ethics, should be able to find herein many interesting and helpful ideas to be put to good, practical use in everyday decision-making.  However, the work can also be read as an exercise in the critical evaluation of the logical flow of ideas that give rise to the ethic; to read it on this level requires a working understanding of basic principles of logic.

Next: Foreword to Ethics
